We are Pleased to announce that Lady (Midge) Fieldhouse, the widow of the 2nd C/O has been pleased to becom Patron of the Asoociation, She will be joining us for the 2009 Reunion.
The Dreadnought Association was started by Peter (Florrie Ford) and Keith Rogers, they with Alan Kennedy as First President arranged the first reunion in Nottingham, in 1981 it was taken over by the Late CM(E) David Tull who ran the Association until his untmely demise (he had access to free postage at the time) The association was originally started for those who travelled to and surfaced at the North Pole. At its formation it was originally named The North Pole Association. The name was later changed as it was found that many of those who had sailed on Dreadnought before and after she visited the North Pole.. expressed an interest in joining.
At the end of the dinner our President Comander Alan Kennedy addressed the association and paid tribute to Dave Tull who sadly "Crossed the Bar" on August 27th last year. He also posed the question of the future of the association, as we are now getting older with some of our members in their 70's, for how long did we want to continue? As it would be very sad to see the association wither away, perhaps we should set a date for the final reunion? This is only a suggestion and the final decision is up to the members, as some of our members are still "youngsters of early 50's. (in fact there are still a couple of 5th Prickers in the RN) So using the contact form or by direct email please give us your views and suggestions.
The Association is now being run by Peter (Florrie) Ford assisted by Terry Spurling and Bruce (Darby) Allan who set up and runs the website, all of whom can be contacted at the website email address. We do not have any source of income apart from raffles etc at the reunions so we have set up a shop where you can safely purchase anything in the shop window, all profits go to the Association to cover postage, website costs etc so please buy lots of gear. Compared with the RN Submarine Museum clothing our prices are very competitive.
If you have any news or photographs you would like entered please forward them, preferably digital to the web email address, info@hmsdreadnought.co.uk. Please remember to tell us who the bodies are in the Photos! We would especially like copies of any items you may have from the Dreadnought Express published during the 1st commision.
Commander Graham Rogers Commanding Officer of Dreadnought From 7th June 1971 to 27th November 1972
"We have recently received a letter from Commander Graham Rogers' wife Elizabeth advising us that due to Graham's continuing ill health, it is unliikely that he will be attending any reunions. He does however wish us well for any future reunions and hopes to be remembered by those who served with him in happy times in HMS Dreadnought."
